Our Family in Kenya

The day yesterday was long and full. We got a second driver and headed to Nakuru. The grocery store that we normally go to apparently hasn't paid their employees in several month and therefore their shelves are quite bare. They had no eggs or meat for example and very little variety of other foods. My mom, Jeremy and I took a "tuk tuk" to another market and found a bit more, but we still don't have much meat and I am sure not enough food for three weeks. Thankfully, Pam will be able to stop at the store in a week on her way to Kapsowar to join us.

Our evening was a true blessing. We were welcomed by the Okumu family. Joy Okumu has moved from Kenya to work at Carle as a nurse and is currently living at our house. It has been wonderful to have Joy in our home, and it was equally wonderful to be in her home. After an amazing Kenyan dinner, they had an anniversary celebration for Jeremy and I (yesterday was our 19th anniversary) including cake, song, gifts and prayers of blessing. The most amazing thing is that the verses that they had on our cake are the exact verses that were preached at our wedding. "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Eph 3:20-21. What a personal, love gift from God Himself reminding us that He is able to do far more than we can ever ask or imagine. Pastor Jacob later shared a meditation from Matthew encouraging us to all have compassion on the "dying" who are in need of a Savior which was perfect for our upcoming work in Kapsowar. The whole evening was an amazing display of lavish, unconditional love and unity - based on our shared identity in Christ - beautiful and humbling. We are off to Kapsowar today!
