Strangely Dim....back to Africa

I have been pondering a hymn recently that has been on my heart - specifically the phrase, "And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." I feel this increasingly and I yearn for it more - yet, struggle within it. Yesterday Ellie and I were talking - at youth group they had been reading the passage when Jesus calls His disciples and they leave all to follow Him. Ellie was reflecting on what it would look like in her life if Jesus was truly the highest priority. She then turned her thoughts to Africa and our previous trips - she made the comment that in Africa the things that consume he here aren't present and her focus is on Jesus...but when she returns to the US, the distractions begin and her Jesus vision wanes. How true that this world can be so loud...and yet, the light of God's glory and grace is bright enough to make all of that grow strangely dim.


We as a family continue to seek how God would have us serve Him. We want to be faithful to His command to "go and make disciples" whether that is in Africa or Mahomet or elsewhere. We will return this summer to Kenya - back to Kapsowar (the second hospital we went to last year) for 3 weeks. The exciting news is that my parents are joining us, as are our good friends Pam and Ella Scott. My dad will be working with me in the hospital, and Pam and Jeremy hope to spend most of their time at the Kenyan running camps establishing work there. We are in the midst of firming up details of the trip, but thought we would get the blog up and running so the prayers can begin! We are working to bring some supplies with us for the nurses and the community - if anyone is interested in donating toward that effort, let us know.


Ways to start praying
1. details of in-country travel. We are probably going to borrow our friends car that Jeremy will drive (will also still have local drivers for another van) - just working on the details of that...prayers for arrangements and safety of all travel
2. sports medicine arrangements - still need lots to come together for this aspect of the trip, but feel this is really a big part of the reason God has called us to Kenya
3. ministry opportunities for the kids and my mom
4. God's going before us in all preparations - including our hearts and the hearts of those we come in contact with
